In Fall 2010 the Learning Alliance will serve as the umbrella organization to all learning community efforts in the College of Liberal Arts. After eighteen years of providing unique and specialized thematic learning communities open to all majors, we must now “morph to more” for the students to which our college is committed. All declared CLA first-time/entering freshmen will be supported by a network of learning community experts, professional staff, and departmental advisors. There is no longer an application process or program requirements to meet other than being a major in one of the disciplines in the College of Liberal Arts. Students will select their CLA learning community on their summer SOAR date.
We look forward to the opportunity to assist even more students at CSULB in addition to the thousands that have made the Learning Alliance a model for success at the Beach.
Students seeking degrees outside of the Liberal Arts may still choose to participate in a learning community at CSULB by enrolling in Beach Beginnings during the summer SOAR program. Beach Beginnings is a learning community that enrolls students in two in-demand General Education classes to help them form study groups, make friends, and forge a connection to CSULB.
Current Learning Alliance students will continue to be supported by our professional staff.
