Dean's Message

Friends,
Friends, I am pleased to introduce the Winter 2011 issue of CLA Connect, the College of Liberal Arts newsletter. In this issue, you will find highlights of the fall 2011 semester that were made possible through the generosity of the CLA community of donors. We hope you enjoy reading about our accomplishments over the last few months.
Over the last several decades, the College of Liberal Arts has become the core of the CSULB campus. Aside from offering numerous general education courses, thanks in part to donors like you, our remarkable faculty have nurtured tens of thousands of majors and minors who have gone on to become leaders in academia, business, politics and a wide array of fields. We simply could not accomplish our mission without the help and support of our benefactors, who collectively contributed more than $2.4 million to the College during the last fiscal year. I am very proud of what we have accomplished and look forward to an even brighter future.
Students and faculty from the College of Liberal Arts have been hard at work conducing world-class research in a wide variety of disciplines, presenting their research projects at conferences, conducting lectures and engaging the public through community service. All of these activities serve to highlight the breadth of expertise that exists on this remarkable campus.
As you may know, I will step down as the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts this coming summer. Having the privilege to serve as the Dean for the last five years, I have had the wonderful opportunity to meet and work with you, our donors, while leading the College. I thank you all for your support, generosity, and friendship. The College has benefitted from our relationship and I have grown both professionally and personally from my association with you. Although I will miss you all, be assured, the College will be in good hands and, like you, I look forward to our next chapter which has yet to be written.
As always, I am very proud of our College and what it represents. We live our mission every day, and I thank you for being a part of our success.
