Michele Himmelberg, a journalist at the Orange County Register, has covered a range of assignments and now writes about Tourism and Sports Business. She also writes a monthly column on careers and has written extensively about workplace issues. Michele began her career as a sportswriter, one of the few women covering professional sports in the early 1980s, with assignments that included the National Football League, National Basketball League and the Olympics. In 1987, she co-founded AWSM, the Association for Women in Sports Media, a professional networking group. Her awards include "Best Sports Story of the Year" from the California Newspaper Publishers' Assn. in 1991, and the Pioneer Award from AWS M in 2001. She graduated from the University of Southern California with a degree in journalism.
