This Fall 2008, the CSULB Department of Social Work will welcome two new faculty members to our outstanding faculty. Joining us will be Assistant Professor Jo Brocato, Ph.D., LCSW and Associate Professor T. Alex Washington, Ph.D.
Dr. Brocato will be joining us from Radford University in Radford, Virginia. In addition to her academic experience she is also a licensed clinical social worker with many years of full-time experience working with adults and adolescents in clinical and secure custody settings. Dr. Brocato's professional interests are in the areas of substance misuse; mental health; drug policy; social justice; poverty and the empirical evaluation of community-based harm reduction interventions.
Dr. Washington will be joining us from Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Washington will remain a Faculty Affiliate in the Morgan-Johns Hopkins Center for Health Disparities Solutions in Baltimore, and a Senior Research Fellow with the National Center for Health Behavioral Change. Dr. Washington has experience in teaching public health social work, as well as social work research and statistics. His research expertise is in the areas of HIV prevention, human sexuality (cognitive theory), and program evaluation. More specifically, his interest involves examining the effectiveness of HIV prevention intervention programs developed for men who have sex with men (MSM).
