The Department of Social Work has been approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing to offer the Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) Credential specializing in School Social Work and Child Welfare and Attendance. This competency-based credential program is fully integrated into the M.S.W. program, and prepares students to work as partners with other educators, parents, and the community, working to maintain high expectations of all pupils, facilitate pupils reaching their highest potential, foster optimum teaching and learning conditions, and prevent school failure.
If you have already obtained your MSW degree and are interested in pursuing a Pupil Personnel Services Credential through the CSULB Department of Social Work, please review the program requirements listed below before completing our program application.
POST-GRADUATE PPSC PROGRAM APPLICATION:

GENERAL PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS:
1. MSW degree from a CSWE accredited Social Work Program;
2. Successful completion of School Social Work (SW 665) at CSULB taken either prior to or concurrently with school social work field work placement;
3. Successful completion of the four required School Social Work Seminar series;
4. Successful completion of 600 hours of fieldwork placement experience. The student must be under the supervision of a PPS Credentialed (in social work) Field Instructor. 450 hours are designated for School Social Work activities; 150 hours are designated for Child Welfare and Attendance activities;
The placement must include a minimum of 100 hours completed in two different levels (i.e. elementary, middle school and high school), exposure to activities listed in the generic and specialist core competencies, and a minimum of 100 hours with at least 10 pupils of racial/ethnic backgrounds different from that of the candidate.
5. The student and field instructor will complete the PPSC Comprehensive Skills Evaluation and the Required Activities document. Submission of a completed PPSC Comprehensive Skills Evaluation demonstrates the student’s competence in the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing’s (CTC) designated Generic and Specialist Core Competencies for the PPS Credential in School Social Work and Child Welfare and Attendance Services. This is signed by the student and the PPSC field instructor recommending the student for both the PPS credential in School Social Work and in Child Welfare and Attendance;
6. Submission of required documents to CSULB’s Credential Processing Center, College of Education (Ed-1, Room 42) to assist in the completion of the applicant file and final processing recommendations for the credential;
7. Successful completion of the C-BEST examination;
8. Completion of required Certificate of Clearance (fingerprinting), character clearance, transcripts and PPSC application materials prior to entry into the School Social Work field work placement; PLEASE NOTE THAT ACCEPTANCE INTO THE PROGRAM IS DEPENDENT UPON COURSE EQUIVALENCIES TO THE CSULB MSW PROGRAM.
9. Completion of required health screening (i.e. T.B. test, measles vaccination, etc.) prior to entry into the School Social Work Field Work Placement; and
