Biographical Information

Dr. Washington’s interests involve HIV prevention interventions, HIV testing and status awareness, health disparities, and human sexuality.  He is the principle investigator of an exploratory study funded by the National Institute of Minority Health and Health Disparities, the recipient of the 2011 Gerald A. Ludd Lifetime Achievement Award (for providing HIV service and research leadership in the Black community), and the 2010 CSULB Early Academic Career Excellence Award.  He is a Senior Research Fellow with the National Center for Health Behavioral Change (Baltimore), Faculty Affiliate at the Morgan-Johns Hopkins Center for Health Disparities Solutions, and received an Underrepresented Minority Research Award from the NIMH Research on AIDS Office.  He has presented his research at national and international conferences, such as the International AIDS Conference in Thailand (2004), Canada (2006); the 22nd International Conference on Social Work at Helwan University in Egypt (2009), and nationally at the W.E.B. DuBois Graduate Society Conference at Harvard University, and other conferences in 13 states across the U.S, including the National African American MSM Leadership Conference in New York (2011). Dr. Washington is published in numerous peer-reviewed interdisciplinary journals, and serves on editorial and advisory boards. He has extensive experience teaching research methods, statistics, and human development.
