Philip Tan

Biographical Information

Phil Tan has been on faculty at California State University, Long Beach since 2001. He teaches the Human Behavior and Research sequences and an elective course entitled Spirituality and Social Work Practice.  He is currently involved with the local interfaith community and especially with the Buddhist, Hindu, and Catholic dialogue groups.  He currently leads a book club for social workers that focuses on readings pertaining to the “Art of Happiness at Work”.  Please feel free to email him if you are interested.  His is also currently researching on the issue of suffering and solutions to it. 

Phil’s collaboration on a qualitative study with a nursing faculty on maternal bereavement is near completion. He is starting a project on the use of the “Native American Talking Circle” and how it can be used as a resource to listen, learn, and teach about spiritual diversity and other issues.
