Professor Foster ("Mike") has been on the CSULB faculty since 1994. Professor Foster teaches Field Seminars to undergraduate seniors and first and second year MSW students. He also serves as the Field Consultant to the Distance Education program in Ventura and Sonoma. Prior to joining the Field Faculty at CSULB, Mike worked for 17 years providing the range of child welfare services at the Children’s Bureau of Southern California where he was also a field instructor for CSULB and UCLA MSW students. He has a strong interest in cultural competency related to Latino and LGBT issues. He also has a practice interest that focuses on leadership and clinical supervision. Professor Foster has been an active member of NASW and is the former Chair of the Jane Addams Council of NASW California. He currently serves on alumni committees at Whittier College and USC School of Social Work. He is a long time community representative to the LEA Board with El Monte City School District.
