Dr. Gurrola’s research interest is related to migration and women voices primarily related to social capital, including asset building such as family connections, entrepreneurial activities, education and community involvement. Her emphasis is in families maintaining family ties in Mexico and the United States which are referred as transnational families. Transnational families have maintained their connection aid by globalization and new technologies allowing them to build capital in both countries. She uses mixed methodology merging and interweaving quantitative and qualitative data to obtain a more contextual perspectives through voices and building community profiles. Dr. Gurrola has experience in behavioral health working with children and adolescents within the Hispanic community. Her research experience also includes mental health, community involvement, and HIV.
