John Oliver

Biographical Information

Dr. John Oliver has been director of the CSULB Department of Social Work since 1998. Formerly on the faculties of the University of Wisconsin and the State University of New York at Albany, he has extensive teaching, administrative and practice experience. Professor Oliver has written about social policies as they relate to issues of educational equity, curriculum development, management of human services and social change. He teaches in the areas of social policy, planning and community organization. Dr. Oliver is a recent recipient of the university's Distinguished Faculty Teaching Award, and he is the President of the California Association of Deans and Directors of Schools of Social Work.  Dr. Oliver was the 2007 recipient of the Lifetime Achievement in Social Work Award from the California Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW). During Academic Year 2008-2009, Dr. Oliver received the National Black Child Welfare Administrators Hall of Fame Award as well as the UCLA Alumni of the Year Award.
