Dr. Brian Lam has extensive background in the issues surrounding acculturation, and developmental needs of Vietnamese-Americans. His current research interests focus on self-construal, inter-group relations, multicultural social work practice, community influences on psychological distress, natural mentoring, and behavioral proneness among Vietnamese American adolescents. His articles appear in the International Journal of Behavioral Development, International Journal of Intercultural Relations, and the American Journal of Orthopsychiatry. He teaches in the areas of social work practice, and conflict resolution. He is a current vice president/operational officer of the National Association of Social Workers, Long Beach Unit.
