As we all begin a new academic year, the members of the ASSW Executive Board and I extend a warm welcome to everyone and invite all graduate and undergraduate students to join the ASSW. Membership is free. General membership meetings for the Fall semester will be held on the last Monday of each month (September 29, October 27, and November 24) from 12:15-1:00 p.m. in SPA 203. Board meetings will be held on the following Mondays: September 8, October, 6, November 3, and December 8 from 12:15-1:15 p.m. in SPA 126.
The following student Committees operate under the auspices of the ASSW: Asian and Pacific Islander Students of Social Work Association; Jane Addams Committee; Tessie Cleveland Committee; Latino Students of Social Work Network and Native American Social Work Committee. Social work students may join one or more of these Committees. Check regularly the bulletin board of ASSW for announcements of each committee’s semester events.
Membership in ASSW is an excellent way to network with peers and faculty, discuss common interests, get useful information, participate in association-sponsored social events and projects, and help promote our Association’s objectives on campus.
The Board members are feverishly working on planning the Fall Semester’s events. Our first event, a Welcome Social, will take place on Monday, September 22nd in the SPA courtyard from noon to 1:00 p.m. All students, faculty, and staff are invited and will have an opportunity to become acquainted and socialize over a free pizza luncheon in a relaxing atmosphere.
If you haven’t already heard, we now have “CSULB Department of Social Work” t-shirts, polo shirts, sweatshirts, and totes. You may purchase one or more of these items at meetings or watch for announcements of our t-shirt sales throughout the school year. The dates of the sales will be posted on the ASSW bulletin board. The proceeds from these sales help support the Association’s numerous projects during the academic year. We count on your support.
We invite you to join ASSW for educational enrichment and a variety of great activities this Fall.
