Apply Now for the Master of Science Degree in Emergency Services Administration

Admission into the MS in Emergency Services Administration program is dependent upon approval by both the University and the Professional Studies Graduate Coordinator. You will be asked in the following directions to concurrently submit many of the application materials to both the University as well as to the Professional Studies Department. Please make certain to follow all directions closely to ensure your final admission into the program and a smooth transition into your first semester of coursework.

Step 1

Apply now using the online CSU-Mentor Graduate Application Form. CSU-Mentor is the California State University's online resource to help you quickly and easily apply for graduate admission on the Internet. Please make sure that you meet application deadlines. The MS in Emergency Services Administration is currently accepting only FALL admits into its Emergency Management Program. Note the following as you complete your online application:

  • By applying online, you can start, stop, and save your application information throughout the process. You do not have to complete the entire application during one session. For example, you can save your application and revisit your application to add or change information when convenient. When applying online, select New User if you are a first-time CSU-Mentor user. This will start your application process.
  • Have your previous academic information ready when you apply. For example, you'll be asked to submit information about the colleges you have attended. You will need the name of the college(s), dates attended, units completed, major, honors, and GPA. For each institution you identify on the application, you will need to request that two corresponding official transcripts be sent to the University. Once set of transcripts should be sent to the Office of Admissions and Records at CSU Long Beach AND a second set of transcripts should be sent to the Department of Professional Studies.
  • On the application form, identify CSU Long Beach Graduate as the University you wish to attend.
  • Select Start New Application to create a new application file. An application general information page will display.
  • Select Begin Application for CSU Long Beach Graduate. This button will appear at the bottom of the general information page.
  • Indicate the term for which you are applying.
  • Click on Select a Campus and Major and select Special Sessions Degree Program. Then click on Set Campus. NOTE: You MUST select Special Sessions Degree Program for the Master of Science Degree in Emergency Services Administration. Do not select Long Beach Campus for this item because the MS Degree in Emergency Services Administration is ONLY a Special Sessions Degree Program. Thus, you must select Special Sessions Degree Program for this item.
  • For Intended Major, select Emergency Services Admin MSE. Click on Set Major.
  • For Degree Objective, select MS for Master of Science degree.
  • For Credential Objective Name, select “Not interested in a credential program.”
  • Complete the section for Previous Application/Attendance and click NEXT at the bottom of the page.
  • Submit other information on the application form as requested. You may wish to collect this information before you apply for admission. For example, you'll be asked to identify (a) previous work experience, (b) the names and addresses of references, (c) honors, (d) languages spoken, and (d) test scores (leave test scores blank if no tests were taken). The absence of test scores will not affect your application. If you have a resume, keep it handy for this part of the application process.
  • You will need to include a brief Statement of Purpose. The Statement of Purpose tells us why you want to enroll in the program. You may wish to prepare this statement before applying. Then, cut-and-paste or print your Statement of Purpose into the application form when prompted.
  • Certify that your application is correct and pay the application fee. You can pay by credit card online.

Step 2

  • You should send a photocopy of your entire admissions packet (including official sealed transcripts if you have them, referred to below in Step 3) to the Department of Professional Studies, to the attention of the Emergency Services Administration Coordinator. We will start a file for you.

NOTE: Final admission to the degree program, for the semester for which application is made is determined by the Professional Studies Department and the Graduate Advisor. Application to the University does not guarantee acceptance into the MS Degree in Emergency Services Administration.

  • Send your photocopied application, and official sealed transcripts, to the following address:

    Dr. James Koval, MFT
    EMER Coordinator
    Department of Professional Studies
    Engineering Technology Building, Room 234
    California State University, Long Beach
    1250 Bellflower Blvd
    Long Beach, CA 90840-0106

Step 3

Arrange for your official sealed transcripts to be sent to CSU Long Beach. You should arrange to have official transcripts sent at the same time you submit your application. If you have college transcripts at home, they should remain in the college's official, sealed envelope. Send (or arrange for your transcripts to be sent) to the following address:

Office of Admissions and Records
California State University, Long Beach
1250 Bellflower Blvd.
Long Beach, CA 90840-0106

Step 4

Wait for your University admissions decision. You will be sent a letter from CSU Long Beach indicating whether your application for admission to the University was approved. If approved, you will also be sent additional information about how to register for classes. Prior to enrolling in any courses however, you should await specific directions regarding enrollment in your first semester of the degree to be forwarded from the Professional Studies Graduate Coordinator.

Step 5

Wait for your letter of admission from the Graduate Coordinator of the Professional Studies Department. This letter will include information about the upcoming Fall Schedule of courses, and the day and time for an online Orientation Session for New Admits. This orientation will be conducted utilizing an interactive program called “Elluminate.” Directions regarding the specific hardware you will need (e.g., microphone and headset), and how to connect to Elluminate will be included in this letter. In the event you are unable to be available for the “Live” Elluminate Orientation Session, these sessions are recorded, and all new admits can have access to the session recording within 48-72 hours.

Step 6

Register for classes and begin your Master's program. Contact the Department's Graduate Advisor, Dr. Peter Kreysa, pkreysa@csulb.edu (562-985-8111) for information about developing an Approved Program Plan of your graduate studies and requirements for advancement to candidacy.
