Statement of Professional Engagement:

Dr. Murphy's areas of specialization are in the intersection of criminology and gender, especially as they relate to juvenile delinquency and intimate partner violence. Within these broad fields, her research and teaching examine how being a victim of violence (in the home and in the larger community) influences the risk of being involved in violence throughout the life-course.

Research Interests

  • Violent victimization in the home or community.
  • The pathways to crime and potential moderators and mediators involved in those pathways.
  • Intimate partner violence perpetration and victimization.
  • Juvenile delinquency involving violence.
