Requirements for BS in Criminal Justice

CRIMINAL JUSTICE MAJOR REQUIREMENTS

For students who declared between August 2006 and January 2008

30 Units of Criminal Justice Core Courses

  • CRIM 101: The Criminal Justice System in Society
  • CRIM 151: Introduction to Criminal Law
  • CRIM 303: Statistics for Criminal Justice Administrators
  • CRIM 351: Adjudication Process in Criminal Justice
  • CRIM 404: Theories of Crime, Causation, Prevention and Control
  • CRIM 468: Correctional Systems
  • CRIM 480: Introduction to Research Methods in Criminal Justice
  • CRIM 483: Enforcement Systems
  • CRIM 487: Juvenile Justice
  • CRIM 495: Internship

3 Units from the Following Criminal Justice Designated Options (Select One)

  • CRIM 305: Ethical Concerns in Criminal Justice
  • CRIM 331: Security and the Criminal Justice System
  • CRIM 373: Victimology

9 Units of Upper Division Criminal Justice Electives (CRIM 300-499 not in coreor used to satisfy designated options)

Notes:

  • 60 units are required in order to enroll in upper division courses.
  • You must complete at least 120 units to earn a Bachelor’s Degree.
  • A grade of "C" or higher is required in all core courses.
  • Lower division courses will not be substituted for upper division courses.
  • If you took an approved* statistics course, you may substitute a CRIM elective for CRIM 303.
  • CRIM 495 may be taken twice & the additional 3 units will count toward the 9 units of electives.
  • All 3 supplementary courses may be taken & the additional 6 units will count toward the 9 units of electives.
  • Students working in the criminal justice system may substitute CRIM 490 (30 page paper) for CRIM 495*.
  • You may take CRIM 499 (Special Topics) for up to 9 units provided that each topic is different.
  • You may substitute upper division CRIM courses from another 4-year university with advisor approval.
  • Consult the College of Health and Human Services Academic Advising and Resources Center ("AARC") and the Schedule of Classes for GE requirements.
  • Majors cannot double count CRIM 101 for GE category D.2.
