Requirement for Admission to the Graduate Program in Communicative Disorders

Enrollment in 500/600 courses in Communicative Disorders is restricted to students who have been admitted to the Graduate Program of the Department. Students must complete the following procedures:

  1. Meet the criteria for acceptance by the University as a graduate student.
  2. Apply to the Office of Admissions and Records to obtain admission to the University with graduate standing.
  3. Apply separately to the Department of Communicative Disorders for admission to the graduate program, using the attached application form.
  4. Supply the following material with the application form to the Department of Communicative Disorders:
    1. ORIGINAL TRANSCRIPTS of all undergraduate and graduate work completed.
      • Transcripts requested by the Dept. of Communicative Disorders are in addition to those required by the Office of Admissions and Records
      • A G.P.A. of 3.0 or better must have been maintained in the last 60 units prior to date of application.
      • Students approved for admission during the last semester of their senior year must confirm an acceptable G.P.A. during their final semester to complete admission to the Graduate Program.
    2. PARAGRAPH –LENGTH DESCRIPTION of significant experience relevant to speech-language pathology, with the name, address, email and phone number of the person-in-charge, who can verify the experience (i.e. SLPA in a school, ABA trainer of autistic child, etc.) and/or a paragraph-length description of relevant research or project completed, with verification details as listed above. Part B is only to be submitted if relevant, significant experience and/or research has been completed.
    3. COMPLETION OF THE COURSE EQUIVALENCY CHECKLIST only if your degree is not from California State University Long Beach or an ASHA accredited university.
