This seminar will provide the police managers/supervisor with a comprehensive and practical analysis of the issues, legal considerations and departmental procedures concerning internal affairs.
Policy and Ethics - Individual conduct, on-duty and off-duty will be discussed. The maintenance of personal integrity will be evaluated in light of the present sociopolitical problems.
Legal Constraints - the constitutional rights and organizational prerogatives will be emphasized as they relate to criminal violations and/or deviancy from administrative standards.
Officer Involved Shootings - general investigative procedures to include shooting policy, scene investigation, shootings with injuries and in-custody deaths and critical injuries.
Internal Investigation Procedures - The sequence of tasks to be performed during an internal investigation will be described.
Disciplinary Action - The various types of anticipated results of disciplinary sanctions will be analyzed.
Problem Avoidance and Identification - the manager and supervisor as a diagnostician. How to detect possible problem employees. Techniques of early corrective action.
