Repeats & Withdrawals

Repeating Courses

Effective Fall 2009, undergraduate students may repeat 28 units over their entire CSULB undergraduate career of which a maximum of 16 units can be for grade forgiveness, in which the grade in the first attempt is excluded from the GPA.

Withdrawals (W)

Effective Fall 2009, all undergraduate students may withdraw from a maximum of 18 units over the course of their entire CSULB undergraduate career (including special sessions, enrollment by extension, and re-enrolling after separation from the University for any reason).

Unauthorized Withdrawals (WU)

If you do not officially withdraw from a course and fail to complete course requirements, you will receive a "WU," or an unauthorized withdrawal.

    • A "WU" grade is equivalent to an "F" in your GPA.

Medical Withdrawals (WE)

Students who are seriously ill or injured and need to withdraw from CSULB may request a medical withdrawal.

Withdrawals for Extenuating Circumstances (WE)

Students may request a withdrawal based on extenuating circumstances that are not medically related.

    • Complete both pages of the Withdrawal Petition to request a withdrawal for extenuating circumstances.
