Capstones
Capstone Courses
Nine (9) units required
There are three (3) types of capstone courses:
- Interdisciplinary (I)
- Service Learning (S or Serv)
- Advanced Skills (A or A-Cap)
- You do NOT have to take a capstone from each category.
- You may satisfy your capstone requirement by taking three (3) Interdisciplinary capstones.
- You may take a MAXIMUM of ONE Service Learning capstone and a MAXIMUM of ONE Advanced Skills capstone, but there is NO MINIMUM requirement; you are NOT required to choose capstones from these categories.
- Capstone courses:
- Reinforce advanced college skills, including writing, synthesis and application of knowledge, analysis, critique, and research
Finding Capstone Courses
- Go to the Schedule of Classes
- Choose the appropriate term
- Click on the “GE Requirement” button
- Scroll to the bottom, under “Additional GE Course Requirements”
- Click on “Capstone – Interdisciplinary” to view all Interdisciplinary capstones
- All Interdisciplinary courses, or “I” courses are capstones.
- If needed, you may also search in the “Capstone – Advanced Skills” and “Capstone – Service Learning” categories to find a capstone course. Please note that you are limited to one of each, but are NOT required to take Advanced Skills or Service Learning capstones.
Finding Capstone courses that fulfill a specific GE category
- Go to the Schedule of Classes
- Choose the appropriate term
- Click on the “GE Requirement” button
- Click on the GE category that you are missing (example: Literature – GE Category C2a). Note: All courses listed satisfy the literature requirement, but not all are capstones.
- To find capstone courses, look at the “GE Designation” for each course (on the right). Courses that have the following designations are capstones:
- Any course that has one of the above GE Designations satisfies both your GE literature requirement and one capstone requirement.
Finding courses that “double count” as Capstone & Global Issues
- Go to the Schedule of Classes
- Choose the appropriate term
- Click on the “GE Requirement” button
- Scroll to the bottom, under “Additional GE Course Requirements”
- Click on “Capstone – Interdisciplinary”
- On the right side, look at the “GE Designation” for each course. Courses that have a “G” or “Global” satisfy both your global issues requirement and one capstone requirement.
- If needed, you may also search in the “Capstone – Advanced Skills” and “Capstone – Service Learning” categories to find a capstone/global issues course.
Finding Capstone & Global Issues courses that fulfill a specific GE category
- Go to the Schedule of Classes
- Choose the appropriate term
- Click on the “GE Requirement” button
- Click on the GE category that you are missing (example: Literature – GE Category C2a).
- To find capstone/global issues courses, look at the “GE Designation” for each course (on the right). Courses that have the following designations are capstones:
- Courses that also have either a “G” or “Global” satisfy your GE literature requirement, one capstone requirement, and your global issues requirement.

- Go to the Schedule of Classes
- Choose the appropriate term
- Click on the “GE Requirement” button
- Scroll to the bottom, under “Additional GE Course Requirements”
- Click on “Capstone – Interdisciplinary”
- On the right side, look at the “GE Designation” for each course. Courses that have an “H” or “HD” satisfy both your human diversity requirement and one capstone requirement.
- If needed, you may also search in the “Capstone – Advanced Skills” and “Capstone – Service Learning” categories to find a capstone/human diversity course.
Finding Capstone & Human Diversity courses that fulfill a specific GE category
- Go to the Schedule of Classes
- Choose the appropriate term
- Click on the “GE Requirement” button
- Click on the GE category that you are missing (example: Literature – GE Category C2a).
- To find capstone courses, look at the “GE Designation” for each course (on the right). Courses that have the following designations are capstones:
- Courses that also have either an “H” or “HD” satisfy your GE literature requirement, one capstone requirement, and your human diversity requirement.
