The Ukleja Center for Ethical Leadership held a spring reception at the Japanese Garden to launch its new Faculty Fellows program. At the event, President Alexander introduced the center’s first two Faculty Fellows, Beverly O’Neill and Bob Eckert, to the university community. CBA Dean Michael Solt and Kathleen Lacey, director and faculty director of the Ukleja Center, presented the honorees with certificates of appreciation.
The program is designed to engage prominent leaders with students, faculty and community leaders by inviting them to guest lecture, teach a class and/or make a formal presentation on campus during their three-year Faculty Fellows appointment.
Beverly O’Neill was mayor of the City of Long Beach for 12 years after serving as superintendent-president of the Long Beach Community College District. Bob Eckert is chief executive officer and chair of the board for Mattel, Inc. During the 2009-10 academic year, O’Neill will give a workshop for CSULB faculty to encourage them to apply for city boards and commissions. Bob Eckert will be making a presentation on his top 10 leadership lessons. For more information about the Faculty Fellows program, please visit www.ucel.org.
