Information for HRM Majors & Minors

Major & Minor in Human Resource Management

Majors in Human Resource Management (HRM) may focus on one of two paths. For undergraduates seeking a career as an HRM professional or executive, the functional track with courses in employment, compensation administration, labor-management relations & negotiations or international HR, leads to an entry-level position in HRM. For those seeking a management career, the organizational behavior track provides an excellent education in people-management skills. This track includes courses in leadership, motivation and organizational development. Option in Human Resource Management (code MGMTBS03) (120 units)

The HRM minor may focus on either track to provide excellent practical skills and concepts on the management of people, supporting other business and nonbusiness majors. The minor is open to any major. The typical HRM minor is a major in communications, psychology, dietetics, or international business. The minor is open to any major and is designed to provide the necessary people-management skills without requiring the full business administration major. Minors take HRM 360 and 361, and select four 400-level HRM courses from the above to complete the minor. For information on the HRM minor, contact Dr. Jonathan S. Monat at (562) 985-4757 or email monat@csulb.edu

Students in the M.B.A. program may take a specialization in HRM which provides them with an emphasis on excellent people-management skills. Courses may include leadership, motivation, management of a culturally diverse workforce and negotiations, all skills essential to effective management.
