Information Systems
The Department of Information Systems at CSULB provides its students with thorough, timely, up-to-date education for successful careers in information technology and related business fields. Our faculty teach, research, and serve the community in ways that foster the mission of the Department, the College of Business Administration, and the University. Our goal is to provide students with essential knowledge for today's jobs.
The Department of Information Systems is responsible for teaching and research in the areas of Management Information Systems and two of the College's core service courses, Business Communication and Business Statistics.
At both the undergraduate and graduate levels, the Information Systems programs develop capable professionals who understand the underlying theory and applications of information systems and who can use their knowledge effectively to solve problems in the context of business functional areas.
The Information Systems Department at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with an option in Management Information Systems (MIS). At the undergraduate level, four tracks are offered: Applications Development, Business Telecommunications, Electronic Commerce, and Decision Technologies.
The Information Systems Department also offers a specialization in Information Systems at the MBA level.
Growth & Development
According to the December 2005 Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Report, Information Systems careers represent three of the ten fastest growing occupations.
To support our students, the department offers numerous evening courses, as well as day courses to serve both full-time and part-time students. Numerous high-tech employers regularly recruit the department's majors, and our students enjoy attractive career and salary opportunities upon graduation.
Our professors combine strong academic credentials with up-to-the-minute knowledge of the dynamic information systems industry. In both their teaching and their research, the I.S. faculty apply a strong business focus to their solid grounding in information systems theories and technologies.
Not many other business disciplines change as rapidly as management information systems. The I.S. Department faculty stay updated on published literature, contribute new research in scholarly journals and at conferences, monitor employer needs and the evolving computer industry, and proactively develop and improve curriculum.
Department faculty members have established working partnerships with some of the computer industry's leading companies.
