HRM Advisory Board Update
The Management/Human Resource Management Department is supported by the HRM Advisory Board whose membership includes senior HR executives and managers from a cross-section of Southern California business and industry. Founded in 1989, the Board’s mission is to enhance learning opportunities and experiences for students, faculty and Board members consistent with global market needs. The main goals of the Board are to:
- prepare students for a career in the Human Resources field
- provide feedback to HRM faculty on expectations of the business community of HRM graduates and on how CSULB curricula might address these needs
- generate financial and other resources for faculty and student development
In Fall 2011, the Board participated in a successful strategic planning session, resulting in a renewed focus on those goals and an additional goal of supporting the college and departments’ efforts to increase HR enrollments while enhancing the reputation and awareness of the HR major. Among the companies represented are Canon Business Solutions, Inc.; American Honda Motor Company, Inc.; Annenberg Foundation; Long Beach Police Department; Mattel, Inc.; Fisher & Phillips; Target; Epson Americas; the Port of Long Beach; The Boeing Company; Paul Hastings; Superior Grocers; Kaiser Permanente; Atkinson, Andelson, Loya, Ruud & Romo; and United Health Care/Pacificare.
