Outreach: Recruiting Students

The CBA has increased student recruitment outreach efforts this fall semester by focusing on community colleges and high schools that send us the most students.   Our advisors attended seven community college fairs and the Long Beach Unified Schools College Fair.  They have contacted over 1,400 prospective students.   In addition our Outreach Coordinator, Boualoy Dayton, conducted six CBA Prospective Transfer Workshops on campus.

These activities give prospective CBA students a glimpse of what being a CBA student is like, describe what resources we have available for them, help them learn more about our eight degree options, and explain how they can achieve their goal of obtaining a bachelor degree in our college.  We were able to connect with over 335 freshmen applicants and over 200 transfer applicants via e-mail.

During the CSULB Counselor Conference on October 26th, we held an information/education session with over 100 counselors participating; over 60 counselors also attended the luncheon that followed. These events helped the counselors learn about our programs and how their students can successfully be admitted to the CBA.  As a follow-up, we sent out media kits that included a welcome from me, a video showcasing our faculty and students, brochures about CBA majors and minors, and a fall 2013 FAQ sheet that answered their admission-related questions.

Our Center for Student Success has created a webpage that is user friendly and provides information for prospective students.  We would also like to reach out to prospective students via Social Media through Facebook, and we plan to initiate this January 2013.
