Cynthia Grutzik

Dr. Cynthia Grutzik is the Associate Dean for Undergraduate and Post-Baccalaureate programs in the College of Education at CSU Long Beach.  Cindy was an elementary school teacher for seven years before returning to graduate school at UCLA, where she earned her doctorate in Education Policy in 1997.  She joined the faculty at Pacific Oaks College for seven years, where she was the Director of the Teacher Education Program and taught methods courses in literacy and social studies.  In her next position, at CSU Dominguez Hills, she was Chair of Liberal Studies and then Acting Director and Associate Dean of the School of Education. 

At CSULB, Cindy oversees credential and undergraduate programs, accreditation and assessment, and outreach and district partnerships.  She is a member of the Board of Institutional Reviewers for the Commission on Teacher Credentialing, and serves as Past President of the California Council on Teacher Education. Her scholarship focuses on educator preparation policy and practice, including teacher pathways and  undergraduate teacher preparation.

Research Interests

Dr. Grutzik’s research focuses on educator preparation policy and practice in higher education and state-wide, student success strategies, and teacher pathways.
