Disrupting the Ordinary: Dr. Lori Patton Davis Presents at Annual Cynthia Senn Johnson Institute

Published October 15, 2018

Dr. Lori Patton Davis, Professor of Urban Education, Indiana University, delivered the keynote at the 5th annual Cynthia Senn Johnson Institute. The Institute, named for the principal founder of the College of Education’s Student Development in Higher Education graduate program, provides a forum for students and the wider higher education community to gather and learn from experts in the field. Dr. Patton Davis’ presentation, “Disrupting the Ordinary: Intersectionality as an Imperative in Higher Education Research and Practice” explored the limitations of intersectionality, while discussing strategies to address these failures.

The morning-long event also included a panel discussion with Dr. Anna Ortiz, Dr. Carmen Taylor, and Dr. Sumi Pendakur of USC, and was moderated by CED's Dr. Angela Locks. Dr. Shametrice Davis concluded the program with the CSJ Mentor Award, which honored alum Dr. Mike Munoz.

The Cynthia Senn Johnson Institute is made possible in part by support from the Cynthia Senn Johnson Endowment. More information and how to contribute to the Cynthia Senn Johnson Endowment.
