Alum Spotlight: Meet Dr. Shauna Harris, Centennial High School Principal

Meet College of Education alumna Dr. Shauna Harris, Principal at Centennial High School in Compton. A recent graduate of CED’s Educational Leadership doctoral program, Dr. Harris defended her dissertation on teacher expectations and student perceptions of teacher expectation in urban high schools this past spring to a packed room, which included several of her own Centennial students who cheered her on. As Principal, Dr. Harris pushes to increase student achievement and successful preparation of life beyond high school, including creating pathways toward four-year universities. When asked how she plans to utilize her Ed.D. degree in her current role Dr. Harris replied, “I plan to use my ‘new’ expertise to change the culture of an inner city high school…My goal is to change outcomes, develop teacher leaders, and work towards creating a sustainable school culture of academic excellence.”
