Where are they now? - Scott Moye

The MSSCM program was a logical choice for me. After spending most of my career in some part of the supply chain, the decision to pursue graduate education at California State University Long Beach was easy. With all the issues that supply chains face, my program has been instrumental in preparing me for the challenges that I will face as I progress upwards in my career.

Currently I work for Costco Wholesale, where I am a Traffic Coordinator for Los Angeles. My daily job function is managing inbound freight to Costco’s Mira Loma cross dock complex and outbound freight to our 7 Hawaii locations. Being in this position has been extremely challenging with the onset of Covid19. From the import slowdown after the Lunar New Year to the unprecedented demand of the consumer. My daily tasks have become much more complex and time consuming, but I truly enjoy connecting the links in this amazing supply chain phenomena.

Every one of my classes in the MSSCM program have helped prepare me for the implications of COVID19 on our supply chain. My Professors’ professionalism has given me the confidence to deal with what I am currently experiencing. Operations Management has been extremely beneficial by helping me to model situations in real time and come up with alternative solutions. Statistics has enabled me to work with vast amounts of data and be able to sort and analyze it to make better decisions. Logistics has taught me not only about the function of each mode of transportation, but the personal connections needed to help make the modes work together smoothly.

As most people are doing right now that we are safer at home, I am enjoying the time with family that was scarce before the onset of Covid19. Building a stronger relationship and keeping the children from feeling the effects of this event have been rewarding for my family.
