Alameda Corridor Training Project

The $2.4 billion Alameda Corridor Project is underway and will consolidate over 90 miles of rail and 200 roadway crossings into one 20-mile transit corridor, and create $88 billion in annual regional economic activity.

Many people living in communities adjacent to the corridor will benefit from this economic boost. Specifically, long-term unemployed individuals have high interest and expectations, hoping for moderate to high paying jobs. This includes residents of Los Angeles, Long Beach, Carson, Compton, Lynwood, South Gate, Huntington Park, Vernon, and unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County.

The Tutor-Saliba team has been selected as the contractor for the Mid-Corridor segment of the Alameda Corridor. Through the City of Long Beach, the ACTA has entered into an agreement with Tutor-Saliba to provide training to provide broader range of -skills required for employment on the Alameda Corridor Project.

Training will be provided by California State University Long Beach faculty and staff with funding under Title III of the Job Training Partnership Act (JTPA). This training will take place in one of the Naval Housing units that we renovated with our Phase I EDA Grant.

The ACTA will train 650 residents in building trades and 350 residents will be trained in non-trade applications. It is estimated that 275 of those hired will be through these pre-apprenticeship training programs. The ACTA housed at our site will be operated as a regional effort to serve the Service Delivery Areas of the County of Los Angeles, the Carson / Lomita / Torrance Consortium and the City of Long Beach.

The CTCA project will also serve customers at other individual one-stop career centers and other satellite locations. The City of Long Beach, through its Private Industry Council, will serve as the administrative entity and grant recipient for this project.
