The Latinas and HIV/AIDS Summit
The Latinas and HIV/AIDS Summit, sponsored by the Office of Minority Health and the Latino Coalition Against AIDS, was convened on World AIDS Day – December 1, 2005 and brought together leading researchers and practioners to participate in the creation of a white paper regarding Latinos and HIV/AIDS. This Summit was followed by a Town Hall on Latinos and HIV/AIDS, which was held at the NCLR National Conference in Los Angeles in July of 2006. These meetings, combined with the needs assessment and current literature, provided an opportunity to highlight new knowledge and outline what can be done to address HIV risk among Latinas and their families. A white paper entitled, Redefining HIV/AIDS for Latinos: A Promising New Paradigm for Addressing HIV/AIDS in the Hispanic Community was released October of 2006.
