Slide 15 of 34

The user testing lab replicates the user environment

  • User works alone
  • A facilitator and observers sit behind a one-way mirror
  • Participant reactions, comments, and activities on the computer are recorded

Notes:

  • The user works alone at a workstation
  • Facilitator and observers: relay tasks to participants and ask questions (over intercom), and monitor participant progress on tasks.
  • Participant reactions, comments and activities on the computer (as they carry out tasks) are recorded for later analysis
  • Video equipment and a computer screen converter are used
  • Such a setting is used so that participants in the usability evaluations will have an experience closer to what they would have working alone on the system being tested
