Doug: I remember a situation where somebody said they had a database and they had a way that you're supposed to put in the dates and they had a mask, which is the right pattern to use. If you didn't use it, it changed color. And he came up with three or four different ways. He asked, Well, can I use the color? And I said, Of course you can use the color, just add something. Put a big question mark that is easily read, or something textual that a screen reader can easily grab or hear?
