BeachScholarships Inquiries

  1. Where can I find scholarship information?
    • Our website is the key source for scholarships www.csulb.edu/scholarships. On the homepage you can select current student or prospective student to view scholarship opportunities available to you.
  2. How do I obtain scholarship applications?
    • Most scholarships will be accessible online through BeachScholarships or as a fillable PDF where you can save, and complete the application. If you are having trouble, please contact the Center for Scholarship Information at (562) 985-2549 or via email at scholarships@csulb.edu and we’d be happy to help.
  3. Are there deadlines for scholarships?
    • Scholarship seasons are in two scholarship cycle
      • September 1 – October 3
      • November 1 – February 15
    • Remember to allow yourself time to complete essays, resumes, and other materials that may have to accompany your application. For essay support, please visit the Writer’s Resource Lab in LAB 206 or contact them at (562) 985-4329.
  4. What is the Applicant Record in BeachScholarships?
    • The Applicant Record is the information imported into BeachScholarships from your official student record. If you feel that the information is not accurate, please contact Enrollment Services (Brotman Hall 101) in order to update or change any information located in your record.
  5. What is an Auto-Match Scholarship?
    • Auto-match means that you have been applied to certain scholarships based on your Applicant Record, your General Application and any college/department application. You do NOT have to complete any additional information to be applied to auto-match scholarships.
  6. How can I apply to the most scholarships in BeachScholarships?
    • Complete the General Application – this application will automatically apply you to many general university scholarships based on the information found in your Applicant Record and the information provided on the application.
    • Complete any college or department applications – these supplemental applications will automatically apply you to many college or department based scholarships based on the information provided.
    • Complete any Recommended applications – go to the “Opportunities” tab and look at your “Recommended” scholarship applications. These applications require some additional questions and/or documents in order to apply you to the scholarship.
  7. How do I know my application is complete?
    • Click on the “Applications” tab to return to the homepage. You should see a tile for your General Application, College Application and Apply-To Applications. If your application is complete, it will say “Complete” on the bottom left side of the tile.
  8. How do I know that BeachScholarships received my application?
    • A confirmation email will be sent to each applicant upon completion of the General Application, college/department applications and any Recommended applications. Please be sure to check your spam or junk mail if you have not received a confirmation email.
  9. What are my chances of receiving a scholarship?
    • Our database provides students with over 600+ scholarships. Last year alone, we received 3,100 scholarship applications, and awarded over 1,000 scholarships. You can’t win, if you don’t apply!
  10. What are the requirements to receive a scholarship?
    • Scholarship criteria differs from scholarship to scholarship, but our new scholarship system hosts all scholarships in the same location. Feel free to check out the requirements of each scholarship.
  11. How can I improve my scholarship potential?
  12. How many years can I receive scholarships?
    • Depending on the scholarship, a scholarship can be awarded over multiple years or a one-time disbursement. This information will be shared with you via email once you are notified that you received the scholarship. For one-time scholarships, we encourage you to apply annually, and as long as you are a CSULB student, you can continue to apply and receive scholarships.
  13. Can I still apply for scholarships if I am graduating this semester?
    • Unfortunately, No. Since scholarships disburse the semester after the deadline date, you must be enrolled in the following semester to receive the scholarship disbursement (i.e: spring scholarship deadline means you will receive the scholarship money in fall. Therefore, if you are graduating in spring, you will not be eligible for CSULB scholarships that are due in the spring).
  14. I am a prospective student, what scholarships are available to me:
    • Once students are admitted into the university and/or taking courses, you may begin to apply for CSULB Scholarships.
    • In the meantime, I would recommend utilizing the Center’s scholarship database to search for opportunities provided by External organizations or entities who award scholarships to all college students.
    • The list below provides External Scholarship opportunities in alphabetical order. If you do not know the name of a scholarship, select ALL to view all External Scholarships listed in the system at this time. You can also view our Prospective Student page for further information.
  15. I am a prospective International Student. What scholarships am I eligible for:
    • The scholarships through the Center are only for currently enrolled students. You must first be accepted to CSULB and begin classes before applying. We recommend contacting the Center for International Education to obtain more information on how to apply to study at CSULB. Thank you!

External Scholarship Inquiries

  1. My scholarship donor needs verification that I am enrolled before they will send the check. What do I do?
    • You can access Enrollment Verification from the Academics section in your Student Center. You can print your unofficial enrollment verification from your browser or request that an official verification be mailed to a specified address.
  2. My scholarship donor needs to know where to send my scholarship check. What do I tell them?
    • Please have the donor write a check out to CSULB and attach a note that includes your full name and campus ID number. The donor will then mail the check to the address information below:

Financial Aid and Scholarships

  1. Does receiving a scholarship affect other financial aid?
    • It depends on the student’s Financial Aid package. Scholarship funding may reduce the amount of aid you will receive from these sources, but typically it will reduce loan and work assistance before grants are changed. For other students, receiving a scholarship does not impact their Financial Aid packages at all. We encourage you to speak to a Financial Aid Counselor if you are concerned a scholarship award will impact your Financial Aid package.
    • This policy is in accordance with federal regulations and institutional policy. If your financial aid must be reduced due to a scholarship, you will receive notification from the Office of Financial Aid.
  2. Is it possible to receive financial aid AND scholarships?
    • Absolutely! Many scholarship recipients receive federal and state aid.
  3. What is the difference between grants, work-study, loans and scholarships?
    • Loans need to be repaid. A student who receives a loan must repay this money to the government, bank, or organization who loaned the money. Grants, scholarships, and federal work study do not need to be paid back.
  4. Is there a limit to how many scholarships or how much scholarship money I can receive in a year?
    • Not really. Sometimes there are limits associated with state and federal financial aid, athletic, ROTC, or tuition only scholarships, but other than that, apply for as many as you can!
