INTENSIVE WORKSHOP (SHORT VERSION)
Workshop Title: Transfer Pathways Workshop - S

Introductions (10 minutes)
- Give name, school, and position with Cal-SOAP, and then give a description of Cal-SOAP.
- Topic: Explain that you’re going to explain community college transfer plans.
- Ice Breaker - Think about three unique statements about yourself—two which are true and one which is false. It is up to your fellow classmates to see how convincing you are and how much they know about you by guessing which one of your statements is false. I will go first by giving you three statements about myself… (Each CPA/AC must participate in the ice breaker.)
Let’s Get Intensive (5 minutes)
- Break down into groups. There should be one group per Cal-SOAP staff member.
- Pass around WORKSHOP SIGN-IN SHEETS (one per group).
- As the Workshop Sign-In Sheets is going around, give students who were absent from the previous workshop a STUDENT QUESTIONNAIRE to quickly complete.
Transfer Pathways (15 minutes)
*Student participation is important. Ask students to volunteer by reading sections or provide any information that they already know about the subject.
- Pass out Transfer Pathways handouts.
- “Plan A” – Associate degree that leads to university transfer.
- “Plan B” – Transfer credits for CSU bound students.
- “Plan C” – Transfer credits for students planning to transfer to either a UC or CSU.
- “Terms” – Go through the terms so that students better understand post-secondary plans.
Activity (If time permits)
- True or False Directions: You will be given two true statements and one false statement. Listen carefully and determine which statement is false. (Note for the CPA: The false statement is underlined.)
- It is possible to transfer to a UC/CSU with an Associate’s Degree. All courses at a community college transfer to both the UC & CSU. Private universities have their own special requirements for transferring.
- Follow the IGETC plan in order to transfer to a CSU. Follow the IGETC plan in order to transfer to a UC. Follow the IGETC plan in order to transfer to a private university.
- The Transfer Admission Agree outlines all classes that are transferable at a community college. The Transfer Admission Agreement outlines classes needed in order to transfer. The Transfer Admission Agreement outlines classes needed in order to earn an Associate’s Degree.
- All courses in Plan A are transferable courses. All courses in Plan B are transferable courses. All courses in Plan C are transferable courses.
- The Articulation Agreement is between the student and the community college. The Articulation Agreement is between the community college and the four-year college. The Articulation Agreement is between the student and the four-year college.
