Welcome Hispanic Stem Students

Published September 18, 2015

Hispanic students interested in science, technology, engineering and mathematics will get an opportunity to learn what the campus’ STEM program has to offer them this Saturday at the annual Bienvenida event hosted by Hispanic Serving Institutions STEM.

The Hispanic Serving Institutions STEM project, a $4.4 million grant awarded to CSULB by the U.S. Department of Education, is a program meant to expand and enhance educational opportunities for, and to improve the academic attainment of, Hispanic students. Bienvenida is one of HSI STEM’s services, along with mentoring and tutoring.

The free event is taking place at the Pointe, located in CSULB’s Walter Pyramid, and is expected to have a professional panel consisting of a medical doctor who graduated from CSULB, a systems engineer – who is also the keynote speaker for the event – and STEM faculty members.

Students and their families will get the chance to speak with campus administration, faculty and staff to ask questions about specific STEM majors. Attendees will also be informed on the various career prospects available for STEM graduates.

Anyone interested in attending the event is highly encouraged to register online to reserve a spot. Although walk-ins are allowed, the limit for the event is about 100 people.

Bienvenida will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and a light breakfast and lunch will be served. Go here for more information about the event and to register.
