Welcome Back!

Monday, Aug. 24, was joyous and hectic, marking the start of CSULB’s 66th fall semester.

This fall sees approximately 37,500 students — one of the largest classes ever, including 9,600 new undergraduate and graduate students — plus 59 new tenure-track faculty.

Across the university, information booths staffed by student advisors from the Student Orientation, Advising and Registration (SOAR) program help students navigate their way around the 320-acre campus. Advisors Bryana Olmeda and Kelsey Aparicio said the most common questions include:

Where is Room/Building X? — Questioners receive directions and a map.

Do you have a club/organization for (interest)? — Come to Week of Welcome that starts Sept. 2 and get acquainted with more than 300 clubs, organizations and student resource groups. A highlight of the week is the 15th annual Smorgasport event Sept. 4, when a night full of rides, interactive activities, food trucks, music and student organization booths takes place in front of the University Student Union. Fraternities and sororities also introduce themselves during the Greek Fair Aug. 26 and 27.

When do buses come? — Every 10 to 15 minutes.

Where do I get a Long Beach Transit U-PASS TAP fare card, which is free to students and employees? — At the Cashier’s Office in the Brotman Hall administration building.

And as for the perennial problem of parking, well, happy hunting.
