5th Consecutive Win

Long Beach State has claimed its fifth consecutive Big West Conference Commissioner’s Cup, making it only the second program to earn that distinction in the Cup’s 16-year history.

With an average of 117.1 points over their 14 sports in 2014-15, Beach Athletics outpaced UC Davis to clinch the Cup and a five-season streak. This is also the seventh cup win for LBSU in the last 10 seasons.

Beach Athletics had many championships among the teams. Women’s volleyball, women’s tennis and men’s track & field all had strong rosters to lead them to victory. Men’s cross country, women’s soccer, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s golf and softball also finished in the top four, which led the program to another top spot in the Cup standings.

UC Davis and UC Santa Barbara both placed high in the Cup rankings. UCD placed second with a 111.9-point average over its 16 sports. UCSB followed in third with a 106.7-point average over its 15 sports. UCSB has earned at least a 100-point average in 14 consecutive Commissioner’s Cup races, joining LBSU as the only programs to achieve that feat. It is the only other school to boast five consecutive championships.

The Big West Commissioner’s Cup, which began in the 1998-99 season, is awarded to the university with the highest total average points. Points are awarded only if the institution sponsors the sport or any other sport it may compete in.  Long Beach State competes in the Big West for 14 of its 19 NCAA Division I programs.
