Teachers at all levels have a tremendous desire to make a positive impact on their students. In the vast majority of cases what we see are students that come through the various programs and go on to unknown futures. One professor that devoted his career to making a difference in his students’ lives and careers was Gene Simonson. Professor Simonson was a founding member of the Economics Department at CSULB and retired at the end of the 1993-94 academic year. He was honored with numerous teaching awards over his long career, including the prestigious first-place award from the nationally prominent Joint Council on Economic Education. In recognition of his impact on students’ lives and career paths, department alumni have established the Gene R. Simonson Endowed Scholarship in economics. This scholarship will be awarded annually to a student that is studying economics and has achieved a high academic standing. All of us in the Economics Department are appreciative of the generous donation that has established this scholarship and believe that the students who benefit from this scholarship will continue to honor Simonson's legacy.
