My Beach Experience

My name is Elizabeth Baldwin and this is my Beach Experience…

My Beach Experience has been about getting involved. I have loved every minute on this campus, and I have tried to sample at least a little bit of anything the school has to offer. I have tried everything including peer-advising, intramural sports, volunteering at job fairs, and participating in student organizations. I have taken something out of every experience, and if I had to do it all again, I would not change a thing.

Getting to CSULB

CSULB was my first choice. I always knew that if I wanted to live on-campus, I would have to get a scholarship to pay for it. A guidance counselor told me about the full scholarship opportunities that CSULB offered, and I applied immediately. When I was offered the President’s Scholarship I did not hesitate to accept it, especially after I visited the campus and fell in love with the culture and surroundings. I loved moving into the dorms, meeting my new suite-mates, and participating in dorm-activities. Until then, I had lived in the same place my whole life, and I settled into my new environment easily. The President’s Scholars Program and the university in general made my transition very smooth, and I began my life at The Beach feeling confident that I could handle the next four years.

Taking the Opportunities

The opportunities presented to me at CSULB have led me to where I am today. I began my student career as an International Business major, but I knew right away that I wanted something different. CSULB allowed me to change majors as many times as necessary to find the right fit, and I eventually settled on Business Administration, with an emphasis in Accountancy. The outstanding organizations on campus for each major allowed me to get involved in the Accounting Society and Beta Alpha Psi. In the accounting organizations I have been able to travel, meet amazing friends, and network with professionals. These opportunities have directly led to me receiving my job offer. I have also been given great opportunities to work on campus, peer-mentor, and get involved with other organizations. I can easily say that since stepping on this campus four years ago, I have let very little opportunities slip past me.

My Beach Beyond the Beach

After leaving The Beach, I will be starting as an auditor at the public accounting firm Deloitte & Touche. I will also be studying hard to pass the CPA exam, so I can become a licensed CPA. I plan on staying in Southern California and working in public accounting as long as I can. I have no intentions of forgetting the school that gave me such great opportunities and I plan on remaining active on campus after I graduate. Keeping up a relationship with The Beach after graduation through the Alumni Association and other organizations is something every student should count on doing.

Congratulations Class of 2009! Good luck and GO BEACH!
