My name is Lindsay Sterk and this is myBeach Experience…
My Beach experience has consisted of taking several courses, both those that are required and those that I wanted to take for me, for the sake of learning, for fun. It has been filled with meeting people, learning about them, learning from them, helping them along their journey. I have attended many school and community events and have given back whenever possible.
In high school, an academic advisor asked what my plans were for college and suggested that I look into the President’s Scholars Program at CSULB. A family friend and role model to me, Morgan, had graduated from CSULB in 2005 and I decided that I wanted to follow in her footsteps and attend CSULB as well. The College of Education at CSULB had a great reputation for their Liberal Studies Integrated Teacher Education Program, which I was interested in at the time. The Beach was the first university I considered attending and receiving acceptance to the President’s Scholars Program was a huge additional blessing.
CSULB has opened up so many doors. The Liberal Studies program allowed me to get involved in several local elementary and middle school classrooms and get to know the new community I call home. The President’s Scholars Program has allowed me to participate in several community service opportunities and on-campus events- Long Beach Leaders, Peer Mentors, both student assistant jobs. CSULB has allowed me to travel to New Orleans, Louisiana and participate in Alternative Spring Break 2010.
After graduation, I plan to obtain a career in student services at the university level. I have every intention of becoming a member of the Alumni Association so that I can stay connected to the Beach, maintain contact with the fabulous people who have made my experience what it is, and stay updated on events and services offered by CSULB.
