Murray Dailey

I joined the Biology Department faculty in 1966. I was at LBSC for 26 years.

During that time, I went through the academic ranks of Assistant, Associate and Full Professor of Biology. I was also Director of The Ocean Studies Institute for 17 years.

My most memorable experience of LBSC was to help establish the Marine Biology degree program in the Department of Biology. Also being the first Director of the six campus Ocean Studies Institute that I helped to create.

I decided to work at LBSC because it was located near the ocean and I wanted to conduct research in Marine Parasitology.

I am currently not in touch with former faculty since the death of Dr. Don Nelson. I do stay in touch with some of my graduate students.

Today, I still do consulting in marine parasitology research, mostly dealing with parasite diseases in marine mammals.

I still do some writing, and I continue to publish my Essentials of Parasitology Lab manual. I have a published memoir and several children’s books. I spend my time between my houses in Sea Ranch, California and Fountain Hills, Arizona.

I think my one word description of the campus student environment during my time at LBSC was PRIDE. They loved being “The Beach”. The only campus in the country with the word Beach in the name.
