My experience was a lot different than most students at LBS. When I arrived at LBS I had:

  • 3 years of Community College experience and classes
  • I was a US Navy Veteran with 5 years of active duty
  • My housing was the 3rd floor of the off-campus housing: in Las Palmas Hall
  • We took public transportation to get to and from the campus
  • My major is no longer offered: BS in Industrial Electronic Technology
  • My home was located in Sunland, CA, so I spent most of my time in the dorm's
  • I got married in summer between my Junior & Senior years to another LBS grad

In my senior year, I was elected the Executive Vice President of the LBS Management Club and was responsible for locating speakers and introducing them to the members' when they came to give presentations. I was a member of the Society for the Advancement of Management, Industrial Technology Club and Intramurals.

My fondest memory was helping another friend from Las Palmas Hall build a steerable 4-wheel cart with a toilet mounted on top which was used to represent Las Palmas Hall in the "Annual LBS Toilet Relay Race" which took place on the upper campus. Each team was composed of eight students with four teams made-up of two people who had to push the cart on the course and one student who had to sit on the toilet the whole race. Our off-campus dorm won the race!

I did attend a number of the speaker's presentations until they brought in some speaker who was against the Vietnam War, but had NO knowledge about what was happening over there. That was the last speaker I listened too!

As I said above, I participated in the Annual LBS Toilet Relay Race. I do not think this is still put on.

I did not have a specific spot where I hung-out at other than the gym where I would play pick-up basketball games or the student cafeteria.

I did have several professors which made an impact upon my development as a student:

  • Prof. Roger Stanton was a great Marketing teacher from which I learned about the world of Marketing.
  • Prof. Robert Simons in the School of Business Administration was also great teacher and a veteran!

The main thing it did for me was to give me the degree that I needed to go out into industry and get a good Engineering job, because I had a lot of experience in the engineering field, I just did not have the degree!

I went through the interviewing process with a number of companies who were interviewing on campus and I accepted an Engineering position with Rockwell International in their Seal Beach facility where the Second Stage of the Saturn Rocket was designed and built which took the USA to the moon!

I had a number of engineering jobs working on a wide variety of projects. I eventually landed a position with The Boeing Company working in a marketing position where I really started to climb the management ranks and eventually retired from Boeing’s Computer Services Company and formed my own company with a partner where I was the VP of Marketing providing technical consulting services to high tech company’s nationwide.

I am not one that likes retirement and I am currently a Substitute Teacher with the Saddleback Valley Unified School District located in Mission Viejo, CA. I like to work with students in a wide variety of subjects and watch them grow in knowledge and understanding. I currently reside in Mission Viejo, CA.
