Dot Goldish

1958-2008

I started as Assistant Professor of Physical Sciences, which soon separated into different departments, so I was Assistant Professor, then Associate Professor, then Professor in the Department of Chemistry, later the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.

At various times I served in temporary administrative positions, one year as administrator of the French/Italian Department, another year serving as Associate dean in Business Administration, then as acting Dean of Natural Science.  Before I retired, I served as Dean of Undergraduate Studies.

I always enjoyed teaching and returned to teaching after each brief administrative assignment.  I was the second woman on the college faculty to have a baby and my department was very supportive of my schedule.

I was very honored to serve the university for three years as Chair of the Academic Senate.  I am very proud of the fact that, in that role and later as Dean of Undergraduate Studies, I was able to help develop policies and procedures that helped students get clear, consistent information on what they needed to do and on completion of requirements.

They offered me the job, at a time (long before the Civil Rights Act) when few employers were hiring women in the sciences.

Not often.

In retirement, I have continued to tutor student athletes at the Bickerstaff Academic Center, but otherwise physical limitations have prevented me from participating in other campus activities.

Friendly.
