La Mirada

After an extensive review, California State University, Long Beach (CSU LB) is proposing to include the Norwalk La Mirada Unified School District (NLMUSD) to the local admission area.

Norwalk La Mirada Unified School District (NLMUSD) serves approximately 18,686 students district wide with four high schools, one continuation high school and one adult school.

Norwalk La Mirada School Unified District (NLMUSD) is currently not included in the local admission area to the three CSU campuses it is geographically closest to. Those CSU campuses are Fullerton, Long Beach and Los Angeles.

Because the three closest CSU campuses to NLMUSD are impacted, students from the school district must meet higher, more stringent admission requirements to be admitted. This places an unfair disadvantage to the students in the district, limiting their access to the CSU.

There would be no deviation from current practices regarding admission offers. First-Time Freshmen from an institution granted “Local Preference” would be granted an admission offer if they meet the minimum eligibility index of 3200, as well as all other minimum admissions requirements.

Transfer applicants would continue to require the completion of coursework required for the major as well as the minimum GPA. All applicants meeting major specific requirements will be placed into the “qualified applicant pool”.  All local applicants who are placed into the qualified pool for impacted majors will be admitted, other applicants and all applicants to highly impacted majors will be ranked according major preparation, GPA and available space.
