Position: Assistant Professor of Geological Sciences 

Effective Date: August 17, 2020 (Fall Semester)

Salary Range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Geoscience or related field at time of application or official notification of completion of the doctoral degree by August 1, 2020
  • Demonstrated potential for or record of research in the broadly defined fields of Sedimentary Geology or Structural Geology
  • Demonstrated commitment to be an effective teacher at the undergraduate and graduate level
  • Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in or potential to teach a breadth of undergraduate and graduate-level courses to a diverse student body
  • Commitment to learning and incorporating pedagogic best practices
  • A record of academic publication and research activity commensurate with experience in the applicant’s field of expertise.
  • Demonstrated success or history of effort to obtain funding for research
  • Commitment to actively support the success of underrepresented groups in STEM fields through teaching and mentoring
  • Ability to incorporate existing university resources, local geology and industry/community contacts into course curriculum, student research projects, and outreach  

Duties:

  • Teach introductory and expertise-related subjects at undergraduate and graduate (M.S. degree) levels, as needed by the Department
  • Mentor undergraduate and graduate students in research
  • Maintain an active research program involving students and leading to peer-reviewed publications and professional presentations
  • Actively pursue external support for research and student funding through grants and contracts
  • Collaborate with colleagues in curriculum development and program assessment
  • Participate in service to the department, college, university, profession, and community
