Position: Assistant Professor of Film and Electronic Arts (Critical Studies: International Cinema)

Effective Date: August 17, 2020 (Fall Semester)

Salary Range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Film Critical Studies with specialization in International Cinema or related discipline
  • Degree at time of application or official notification of completion of the doctoral degree by August 1, 2020
  • Scholarship in critical studies with specialization in international cinema as demonstrated by research and publication records in this field
  • Record of at least two years of college-level experience teaching film theory and criticism
  • Demonstrated potential for sustained growth and success in research, scholarly and creative activities
  • Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to teach a variety of courses in film theory and criticism at the undergraduate level with expertise in international cinema
  • Record of a significant and active research portfolio in the area of film criticism
  • Evidence of research, scholarly and/or teaching expertise in one or more of the following areas: Latin American, East Asian, Southeast Asian European, Middle Eastern and Japanese cinemas
  • Evidence of familiarity with emerging trends in film criticism including inclusive pedagogical practices in the areas of theory, criticism and historical research

Duties:

  • Teach undergraduate courses in film history such as theory and criticism in addition to international cinema
  • Collaborate with faculty to develop curriculum and coordinate/expand interdisciplinary collaborations and screening events with other departments on campus including study abroad initiatives
  • Engage in outreach, student mentoring, and involvement in student activities
  • Assist in identifying and recruiting part-time faculty
  • Act as program liaison with professionals in the field
  • Develop and maintain ongoing research, scholarly and creative activities
  • Participate in service to the department, college, university, and community
