Bryant Salinas

SI Leader for Treesukosol, Y [ M,W 11 - 12:15 pm ]
Bryant's course is M, W 12:30 - 1:45 pm [ Section 01, #2919 ]

Hi my name is Bryant Salinas and I’m from Los Angeles, California. I’m a Graduate Student pursuing a MA degree in Psychology, option in Psychological Research. I also work in the developmental addiction lab at CSULB. I will be pursuing a MD/PhD in order to further continue research in the neuroscience field.

I applied to become an SI Leader because I wanted to share my passion and enthusiasm for Psychobiology related courses. My hope is that after this course students will share in the same amazement for the subject and take this experience into future endeavors. I will show students the necessary study skills not only to master this course, but to use for the rest of their academic career. Being an SI Leader will allow me to connect with students on a level that I find rewarding. I plan to continue mentoring and teaching students at the college and university level as I find it a privilege to be part of their college experience.

Fun fact about myself, I am a new father and loving every minute of it.

Emily Bates

SI Leader for Lee, D [ Tu, Th 11 am - 12:15 pm ]
Emily's course is Tu, Th 12:30 - 1:45 pm [ Section 02, #3673 ]

Hello! My name is Emily Bates, and I am a second year master’s student in the MAPR program. I was born and raised in Virginia, and attended James Madison University for my undergraduate degree. I wanted to come to California for a change of pace, the sunny weather, and this master’s program. I am also applying for PhD programs in developmental neuroscience.

While I have not worked as a SI at this institution, I worked for a tutoring program in undergrad for over two years. Through this tutoring program, I created worksheets and practice questions, conducted large and small group review sessions, and worked with students individually. Most importantly, I learned how to effectively communicate difficult material to students. My favorite part of working with students is taking a concept that seems impossible and making it easy-to-understand.

Chelsea Barnes

SI Leader for Lee, D [ Tu, Th 11 am - 12:15 pm ]
Chelsea's course is Tu, Th 9:30 - 10:45 am [ Section 03, #3610 ]

I’m a second year graduate student in the Psychological Research program and am very excited to be at CSULB. I previously attended San Jose State University and received my BS in Psychology with a minor in Anthropology. During my undergraduate career, I served as the President of Students Against Violence Everywhere (SAVE), worked as a peer counselor for survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence, was an officer for the Psi Chi honors society, was awarded an Excellence in Service-Learning Leadership award, and received the Woman in Science Scholarship through the American Association of University Women. This fall I will be applying for Doctorate programs in Clinical Psychology so I can continue on the path to being a clinician.

I applied to become an SI leader because of my love for psychology and working with others. My favorite part has been facilitating discussions and creating fun activities as a way of remembering and understanding the topics from class. As an SI leader, I hope to continue to make a difference in student’s academic careers.
