SI Leader for Chem 111A - Mohemmai, M [ M,W, F 11 am - 12 pm ]
Bio 211 - Pernet, B [ Tu, Th 12:30 pm - 1:45 pm ]
Chem 111A - Chen, A [ Tu, Th 3:30 pm - 4:45 pm ]

Jamie's course is Tu, Th 2 pm - 3:15 pm

My name is Jamie Gleason and I was born and raised in Fullerton, California. I became interested in Science in middle school and it continued in high school where I became president of our Physics Chem Club. Other than Science, I enjoy music and have played the piano and trumpet for about 9 Years. I was a part of my schools marching band and jazz band program for about 6 years. However, I decided to continue down the path of science rather than music. I am currently a Biochemistry major and in my second year here at CSULB. I work in a chemistry research lab under the direction of Dr. Stephen Mezyk and I have also joined the BUILD undergraduate research program.

My goals are to get a DVM and earn a PhD in biochemistry in order to do research in animal health and related fields. I plan to graduate spring 2018 and hopefully be at Vet school by fall 2018. I have been working at a veterinary clinic since my senior year in high school and plan on volunteering at the animal shelter in the near future in order to prepare for my future education.

This will be my first 2nd semester as an SI Leader. I decided to become an SI instructor because I was inspired to help other students achieve their goals. Watching somebody work hard to understand something and become a better student is incredible. I want to help my students believe in themselves and their ability to succeed in not only their classes but anything they set their mind too.

Nicole Lopez

Chem 111A and Math 119A

SI Leader for Chem 111A - Chen, A [ Tu, Th 2 pm - 3:15 pm ]
Math 119A - Araeipour, M [ M, W 9:30 am - 10:45 am ]

Nicole's course is Tu, Th 12:30 pm - 1:45 pm

My name is Nicole Lopez. I was born in La Verne, California and moved to Long Beach after being accepted as a freshman in 2014. I am a third-year Organismal Biology major, specifically following the zoology route. I am a member of Dr. Stankowich’s Evolutionary and Behavioral Ecology lab, aka the “Mammal Lab”. I am currently working on an undergraduate research project that studies evolutionary traits in deer. In my free time, I enjoy playing on my intramural soccer team.

I was introduced to this position by fellow lab mates who have been SI Leaders for a couple semesters. I have always wanted to help students grow and succeed in their classes, and this seemed to be the perfect opportunity. Knowing firsthand that these classes can be tough, having someone to help you out can make a huge difference. I intend to incorporate interactive and competitive aspects into my teaching lessons to bring out the passion and fun in learning. I will try my best to always be an available and helpful resource to my students and I look forward to a great semester!

Robert Crowley

Chem 111A and Math 119A

SI Leader for Chem 111A - Chen, A [ Tu, Th 2 pm - 3:15 pm ]
Math 119A - Geier, G [ Tu, Th 9:30 am - 10:45 am ]

Robert's course is Tu, Th 11 am - 12:15 pm

My name is Robert Crowley. I was born in Long Beach, California in the Belmont Heights area. I am a junior pursuing a major in Chemistry, with a minor in Math. I graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School with high honors, and received the California State Seal of Biliteracy in German. I also received a number of awards for the shows that I was involved in as a member of the Wilson Drama Program. When I graduate, I hope to be involved in chemical research, in a lab of some kind. This is my fourth semester as an SI Leader. I decided to become an SI Leader because I love taking subjects that I understand and helping other people to get a better understanding of them. I like being able to expose students to new ways of working through a problem. I am also a huge fan of Game of Thrones and am eagerly looking forward to the sixth book coming out.

Liam Twight

Chem 111B and Bio 211
SI Leader for Chem 111B - Bahrami, M [ M, W, F 8 am - 9 am ]
Bio 211 - Pernet, B [ Tu, Th 12:30 pm - 1:45 pm ]

Liam's course is Tu, Th 2 pm - 3:15 pm

My name is Liam Twight, and I’m born and raised in Northern California, specifically, the small town of Anderson. I am pursuing a B.S. in Biochemistry here at CSULB and am a member of the University Honors Program and President’s Scholars Program.

I applied for the SI Leader position when my labmates and PI recommended it as an excellent professional development opportunity. As someone who plans to conduct independent research, I see the SI program as an important step towards learning effective teaching methods that will be useful in the realm of academia.

Teaching is particularly appealing to me because it is an opportunity to share my fascination with chemistry and biology with others and perhaps inspire future interest in these topics. I do not want students to be deterred by the difficult coursework in a class, something that happens all too often in the sciences. Rather I hope that through guided learning students gain the skills and knowledge that allows them to see past the difficult curriculum, and come to recognize and want to explore the incredible applications of chemical and biological concepts learned in class in the areas of health, energy, materials, the environment, and so many more. I look forward to furthering this goal as an SI Leader.

Amber's course is W 2 pm - 3 pm

Hi! My name is Amber Lyn Scardina. I’m from Newbury Park, California and moved to Long Beach to pursue academics. I’m currently a “Super Senior” and am double majoring in Electrical Engineering and Physics. Some of my undergraduate achievements include making Dean's List for fall 2012, 2013, and Spring 2015, in addition to achieving President’s List in fall 2014, 2015, and spring 2016. In the future, I would like to work as an engineer, and have strong interest in space and control systems.

been an SI leader for the past 5 semesters. I decided to become an SI leader because it allows me to be creative and interact with other students. My favorite part about being an SI leader is getting to know my students and being able to learn and have fun with them at the same time. Lastly, a fun fact about myself would be that I am obsessed with anything Marvel (comics, movies, characters, etc.).
