For the second consecutive year, Cal State Long Beach has been awarded the designation of Military Friendly School by G.I. Jobs, the premier magazine for military personnel transitioning into civilian life.
Long Beach State has reclaimed the Big West Conference Commissioner’s Cup after tallying the best point average during the 2010–11 intercollegiate season. The victory is the third overall and the second in the past three years for the 49ers in the 13–year history of the cup.
The NCAA announced its multi-year academic performance rates for Division I teams, covering a four–year period from the academic years of 2006–07 to 2009–10, and Long Beach State exceeded the minimum score in all 18 sports the school offers for the fifth straight year.
Cal State Long Beach once again has been named one of the nation’s 50 “Best Value” public colleges by The Princeton Review, which teamed up with USA Today to present its list of the 100 “Best Value Colleges for 2011.”
CSULB is among Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine list of the 100 Best Values in Public Colleges in 2011. More than 500 public four–year colleges and universities were considered and ranked on academic quality, admission and retention rates, graduation rates, and cost and financial aid.
Confirming its status as one of the most diverse campuses in the nation, Cal State Long Beach is among the top 10 universities in the nation in both the number of master’s degrees and the number of bachelor’s degrees awarded to Hispanics.
Cal State Long Beach dedicated its new Hall of Science this fall. It is the largest capital building project in the campus’ 62–year history, and it is also the largest and most expensive building project in the California State University system. The $105 million project encompasses nearly 165,000 gross square feet and completes the Natural Sciences Complex.
The prestigious President’s Scholars Program awards high school valedictorians and national scholars full four-year scholarships to CSULB. More than 1,000 President’s Scholars have benefitted from making CSULB their university of choice.
Opening in 1949 with fewer than 200 students, CSULB has awarded degrees to more than one-quarter million alumni.
