DANIEL B. FREEMAN

PHILOSOPHY

From my perspective the teaching of printmaking in the new millenium requires a re-evaluation of its historical traditions. The activity of teaching students needs to not only incorporate the techniques and technologies of printmaking but to expand and include the theoretical and conceptual directions that cutting edge contemporary printmaking currently represents.

Why teach printmaking? The social and political traditions of printmaking provide an excellent forum for expression. They allow the student to combine a personal expression with social and political concerns; thereby creating the possibility for exciting multiple dimensions within a work.

As a professional artist and printmaker I bring to the classroom an enthusiasm and lifestyle befitting an artist. I communicate a desire to expand and enhance a student's conceptual and technical skills in art. My strengths lie in the twenty-plus years of experience and maturity as a professional artist and printmaker. I command a broad knowledge in all areas of art from the brush to the gallery and I communicate this to the student. I impart a "want to learn" attitude in my students and inspire progress toward their highest artistic potential.
